How to Register for COVID-19 Vaccination CoWIN ?

Checkout the steps to register for COVID-19 CoWIN. The registration starts from 28th April 2021. The government has made t clear that registration for the COVID vaccination will mandatorily be done online and there will not be any Walkin registration. The third phase of the inoculation exercise will begin on May 1.

Earlier the central government had announced to make the COVID vaccine available to states, private hospitals and industrial establishments to procure the doses directly from manufacturers.

How to register for register for COVID-19 CoWIN ?

  1. A person needs to register with his or her mobile number on the CoWIN portal (can be accessed here – www.cowin.gov.in).
  2. They need to fill details like name, date of birth, gender, upload a photo ID proof like Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, Passport, Driving License, PAN Card or Pension Card.
  3. Once the registration process is completed successfully, the beneficiary receives a confirmation message.

How to book an appointment ?

  1. Eligible beneficiaries can schedule an appointment from the ‘Account Details’ page by clicking on ‘schedule appointment’ on the portal.
  2. You can search for the Vaccination Centre of choice by State, District, Block and Pin Code from the drop downs.
  3. The beneficiary needs to click on the Vaccination Centre of choice, to get the dates and check for availability of slots.
  4. If a preferred slot is available, they can click on the ‘Book’ button.
  5. Then, an ‘Appointment Confirmation’ page will be displayed.
  6. Click on the ‘confirm’ button after verifying your details for final confirmation on booking.
  7. The scheduled appointment can be downloaded and saved.

Where to register in this phase?

There is no other option other than Online Registration as of now. Registration on the CoWIN portal is mandatory for the 18-44 age group. No walk-in facilities will be available for this group initially. However, those aged 45 years and above will continue to enjoy the on-site registration facility.

COMMON FAQs

How can I self-register?

Citizens will be able to register and book appointments for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the Co-WIN portal. It is possible that people may not immediately get an appointment as the states are still figuring out the logistics of the massive exercise. States are expected to put out additional details soon.

What should I do if there are no slots?

If there are no availability of slots, then click on the button to check appointment slots for subsequent days/weeks or try another vaccination centre near you.

Can I reschedule my appointment?

Yes. Once the appointment is fixed, it can be rescheduled at any later stage, but before the vaccination appointment day.

What about my second dose? Do I have to register again?

No. Once vaccinated for the first dose, the beneficiary will be automatically scheduled for another appointment for the second dose at the same centre. If a beneficiary cancels a first dose appointment, then appointment of both doses will be cancelled. In case the user has moved to another city, appointments can be rescheduled for the nearest vaccination centre in that city.

The government had earlier revised the gap between the two doses for the Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield, being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, to six-eight weeks. However, the interval for the second dose of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin remains unchanged.

What are the documents that I need to carry to the vaccination centre?

In addition to the appointment confirmation letter, a person must carry the photo ID listed on the CoWIN portal at the time of taking the vaccination.

Do I need to register and get an appointment only for private facilities?

Registration and an appointment needs to be taken for both the private as well as government hospitals, as things stand.

Is there any option to select between Covishield and Covaxin?

There’s currently no such option provided on the Co-WIN platform. Some of these guidelines are subject to changes when the next vaccination phase on May 1.
