Pregnancy tumor is a tumor like growth of fibro vascular or granulation tissue with extensive proliferation as a result of hormonal changes commonly occurring in the gingiva.
Pregnancy tumors which is also known as pyogenic granuloma. They are inflammatory begins growths that develop on the gums as part of an exaggerated response to the irritants that cause periodontal disease .
Females are far more susceptible than males because of the hormonal changes that occur in women during puberty, pregnancy and menopause. The female steroid hormones such as estrogen and progesterone reach the peak levels by the end of third trimester of pregnancy.
These tumors are rare ,usually painless and develop on your gums in response to plaque. Although they are not cancerous ,they should be treated. Pregnancy tumors usually subside shortly after childbirth.
